Sali Berisha was asked at today's conference why the DP has not supported the protest of the residents of Baks-Rrjoll in Velipojë, who accuse businessman Bashkim Ulaj of stealing their land for the construction of a tourist resort with the help of local institutions.
Unlike other times, when he strongly supports citizen protests that are not called by him, the leader of the Democratic Party was cautious and gave a more official response, saying that he supports their protest, but only on the condition that the claims are based on official documents.
"Of course, we support the protest without question, when the problems are all based on accurate, official, true documents, which I do not discuss. Apriori does not refute any of the claims of those protesters, so we are seeing, we are following it. Should it be based on documents? It should. Because I have no knowledge of whether it was bought or not. We are following this development," the chief democrat said.
Perhaps it's a coincidence, but Berisha's response is in line with the company's public reactions, which emphasize that the project is based on documents.
However, the Democratic leader's stance on the protest in question highlights the "embarrassment" he has when it comes to names of businessmen he never mentions.
Since the leader of the Democratic Party states that support for them will only continue if the residents' claims are based on documents, the question arises why no democratic representative has gone to verify these "question points", while the residents have been protesting for six days.
