Through a video posted on social media, the Chairman of the Mundësia Party, Agron Shehaj, has called for a protest on March 5, at 6:00 PM, in front of the Albanian Parliament. Shehaj has shared footage that he says comes from Rrjolli, where protesters have clashed with the State Police again. The video shows moments of tension, where citizens are alleged to have been raped and forcibly escorted to the police station.
"They are beating them with fists, with force. They are beating women, the elderly, children. Why? Because they do not accept that an oligarch steals their property, they do not surrender," Shehaj said in his reaction.
The leader of the Opportunity Party invites citizens who, according to him, are facing abuses of power over their properties, to join the protest. He mentions the residents of Rrjoll, families in Durrës who have been protesting for weeks over property issues, as well as citizens from other areas of the country, including Theth and the south.
In his status, Shehaj writes:
"Property is the greatest injustice done to Albanians.
Thursday, March 5, 6:00 PM, protest in front of Parliament.
For the residents of Rrjoll. For the families of Durrës. For Theth. For the south, for the 'small spots' everywhere in Albania. For every Albanian whose property has been robbed.
We cannot stand by as women, children, and the elderly are raped by the strong, just because they are protecting their land from plunder.
Come too!
"Together we can make it. The property must go to the owner!"
Shehaj emphasizes that the protest aims to raise public awareness on the property issue and, according to him, to oppose violence and abuses against citizens.
