Following numerous and repeated problems with the supply of drinking water in the capital, the head of the Tirana Water and Sewerage Authority, Skerdi Drenova, has been dismissed from his post. The decision comes after continuous complaints from citizens, who have been reporting serious water shortages in their homes for months.
Residents of several areas of the capital report that water supply has been reduced to just one hour per day, an amount insufficient to meet basic daily needs, such as personal hygiene, cooking and cleaning. The situation has caused great concern and widespread dissatisfaction, especially among families with children, the elderly and people with special needs.
According to citizens, the problem has worsened over time and has not improved even during the winter period, despite heavy rainfall. This has raised questions about the management of water resources, considering that Lake Bovilla, the main source of water supply for Tirana, has been full and without any visible problems in its capacity.
The situation in Tirana reflects similar problems that have emerged in other cities, such as Vlora, where for five consecutive years there was no drinking water, causing revolts among residents. This shows that the management of drinking water remains a serious challenge for state institutions and citizens.
