Prime Minister Edi Rama has openly defended the director of the AKSH, Mirlinda Karçajan, for whom SPAK has imposed the measure of 'house arrest' on charges of violating equality in tenders. In the last press conference for this year, Rama said that he has maximum respect for the director of the AKSH, since according to him, she has structured this institution.
The Prime Minister even lamented the plight of Karçanaj, who is accused of embezzling millions of euros, for living in a rented house.
"This is part of the investigation. I have no knowledge of this and I cannot make any comment on the half-truths that come up and down. It is a process, investigations will be conducted. At the head of the AKSH team is a woman who has unquestionable respect. Linda Karçajan, who has a security measure, with a rented house where she lives, as she previously lived in a post-communist house in her parents' apartment. I have known her for 20 years and she has my respect," said Rama.
However, verifications conducted by VNA show that Karçanaj has no asset declaration either in the HIDAKKI or on the Open Spending Albania website. Asset declaration is a legal obligation for any state official, especially for Karçanaj who has held the position of director of the AKSHI for eight years.
The question arises whether this is the result of HIDACCI forgetting to request the declaration, or whether Karçanaj has nothing to declare? In both cases, a clarification is required.
