The Democratic Party filed a lawsuit on Monday with the Electoral College to annul the decision of the Regulatory Commission, thus challenging the final result of the May 11 parliamentary elections.
The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the electoral coalition "DP-Alliance for a Greater Albania" and is based on the claims of this opposition coalition that the electoral process had serious legal violations and problems that make this process "not free and not fair".
The opposition's allegations relate to the use of public resources in the campaign, voter intimidation, vote buying and selling, and the influence of criminal groups in the process.
According to the lawsuit, in the Tirana district the problems have been more pronounced, due to the concentration of the population and administration, but similar phenomena have also been observed in other districts such as Durrës, Shkodër, Elbasan, Vlorë, Fier, Korçë and Dibër.
"The May 11 elections did not meet the constitutional and legal standards for being free, fair and equal," the opposition's conclusions state.
The opposition also claims that despite the denunciations, law enforcement bodies, including the Central Election Commission and law enforcement agencies, have had a lukewarm reaction and not proportional to the seriousness of the problems identified.
The Regulatory Commission at the Central Election Commission approved on Thursday with three votes in favor and two against the final result of the May 11 parliamentary elections, after a long series of disputes at all levels of appeal.
The opening of ballot boxes in several large districts did not bring any changes to the preliminary results from the recount, declaring the Socialist Party the winner with 83 parliamentary mandates, while the opposition coalition "PD-ASHM" received only 50 mandates.
The Social Democratic Party led by Tom Doshi received three mandates as MPs, while three new parties also entered parliament; the Opportunity Party with two mandates, and the Together Movement and the 'Albania Becomes Initiative' with one mandate each.
