To truly understand the disappointing result of the Democratic Party in the May 11 elections, there is no need for polls or complex analyses; it is enough to listen to the public statements of its representatives, who seem to be involved in a feverish race to serve the president as best they can. Instead of seeking a sincere and in-depth analysis of the reasons for the loss, the easiest path is chosen, amnesty for Berisha and silence about the real problems that have alienated citizens from this political force.
The latest case is that of elected MP Ivi Kaso, who spoke about the need for an internal analysis in the DP, but with a clear condition, not touching Sali Berisha.
"This analysis is time to start from the top down, that is, from the performance assessment of the Presidency of the Democratic Party, with its political leaders, secretaries, the high executive hierarchy, to move on to the assessment of the work of each member of the National Council, then move on to the performance assessment at the branch level, group of sections, going all the way to the last section. According to it, only the leader of the DP, Sali Berisha, should be amnestied, who, in my opinion, has worked harder than everyone else," said Kaso.
So, to put it simply, an analysis is required just to say that the party is reflecting. Because an honest analysis cannot exclude anyone, much less the main figure who led the campaign, chose the team and strategy, and who ultimately led the defeat.
If we stick to the facts and reality, there is little doubt that the main responsibility for the catastrophic result falls precisely on Sali Berisha. In the best case, it is he who chose the approach and the people who accompanied him in this race and lost. And in the worst case, Albanians, even the democrats themselves blinded by him, already know that Berisha's political time has passed. Any attempt to keep him at the helm, through internal mechanisms that isolate the party from reality, is in fact evidence of the further collapse of the Democratic Party.
Even if Berisha were to be cleared of "non grata" tomorrow, it is the sins of excessive power that he has had in his political career that no longer inspire hope among Albanians. His exclusion from the analysis of the super loss is the same as saying that a team loses consecutively because of the fans, and the coach is exempted from responsibility.
In this case, it would be better for Kason not to talk about the analysis at all than to come up with a proposal that, in essence, kills any attempt at internal reform. However, we are on the verge of the start of the new parliamentary session and the race for the leadership of the parliamentary group has begun in the DP. In such races, servility to the chairman still remains the most efficient way to advance in one's career.
