Researcher Auron Tare has reacted sharply after today's activity of the Ministry of Culture, where Prof. Richard Hodges, the head of the Archaeological Mission in Butrint, was invited and publicly honored.
Tare recalls that Hodges became known to the public after a recently released video of his lectures at American universities, where he states that:
"Butrint accidentally remained in Albania",
"Albanians expelled the Greeks from the south in 1913",
and that "Albania is an artificial state created by a British politician".
“Of course, every scholar has the right to have their own opinion,” writes Tare, “but when such an openly anti-Albanian character is received and honored by the Minister of Culture, the question arises: does the minister also share the same opinion as the friend he honored today?”
This reaction has sparked debate on social media, where many citizens have called it "unacceptable" that a figure with such statements about Albanian history and identity would be invited to an official event.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Culture has not yet reacted to Tara's accusations.
