After failing to shut down TikTok to prevent violence among young people in schools, Prime Minister Edi Rama has spoken about the next step to respond to this problem, and that is the "Smart City Albania" project.
"School safety changes radically," said Rama during the presentation of the project, which envisages the installation of an advanced network of cameras and radars to increase public safety.
But the cameras seem to have more of an identification role in cases of violence between students than preventing its consequences.
"Since this system has entered schools, crimes of all kinds have drastically decreased, but also school absences, school cheating, and the appearance of the class turning into a toy corner have drastically decreased. At the moment when the State Police needs to do a verification, it has it recorded," said Rama.
According to the Prime Minister, the recent events in several schools in the country were also due to the lack of clear footage, making the work of investigators more difficult.
"The tragedies we have had with schools have many reasons, but they are also related to the fact that not having a clear view ahead makes the work of investigators and the police more difficult. With this system, the yard is guarded 24/7, as if there were police guards."
We recall that after the murder of 15-year-old Martin Cani, all government measures to prevent this phenomenon have not been successful. This event has enriched other incidents among school students, where in the last month alone several other cases have been registered and unfortunately with victims. A few weeks ago, 15-year-old Erjon Boba died after being hit during a fight with his peer.
