The Mandates and Immunity Council will meet today to review the request of the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) to revoke the mandate of MP and Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku, which would pave the way for her arrest.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Balluku has been charged with alleged violations in procurement procedures related to the Llogara Tunnel tender as well as the 7 lots of the Grand Ring Road project.
The Council of Mandates and Regulations is headed by Chairman Niko Peleshi. The members from the Socialist Party are Taulant Balla, Ulsi Manja, Bledi Çuçi, Bledi Çomo, while Antoneta Dhima is a substitute member and Arkend Balla is a substitute member.
From the ranks of the Democratic Party, members of the Council are Gazment Bardhi, Oerd Bylykbashi, Elda Hoti, Gent Strazimiri and Saimir Korreshi, while Ivi Kaso and Gerta Bardeli are substitute members.
After reviewing SPAK's request, the Council is expected to submit a report to the Assembly, which will make the final decision regarding whether or not to remove Belinda Balluku's mandate, in a process that is expected to be accompanied by strong political debates.
