The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, does not stop the attacks on SPAK and Alrin Dumani. In a communication with citizens on social networks today, Berisha stated that his arrest was carried out without any formal charges, describing it as a politically motivated action.
Berisha called SPAK an instrument in the service of the government, while comparing the investigations against him and Ilir Meta to the practices of prosecutors in the People's Republic of China, where, according to him, political opponents are punished.
"In 2007, I set up a task force in which I chose the leftist Altin Dumani to head it. I chose him with a leftist intention so that he would wait without any hesitation towards the administration for anyone who violated the law. My problem has been these in SPAK, I tell everyone to remember files 184 and 338. Can those files be closed without punishing electoral criminals. Closing these files was a license for Edi Rama to plunder and do whatever he wants with the elections. No opposition member has immunity, but when you arrest the leaders of the main opposition parties in an electoral year and put the other one under criminal prosecution, you prove that you will take the elections at any cost. Didn't Altin Dumani in this case become Edi Rama's scapegoat for the plunder of the elections. I was arrested as a person under investigation without any charges. The measures against me were imposed without ever calling me without asking me a question. Ilir Meta was robbed and mistreated in the middle of the highway as a person under investigation without any charges. The state that today probably punishes corruption acts more severely than any other state with hanging and death is the People's Republic of China. But there political opponents are also punished. And such a prosecutor's office that hunts its own political opponents is used as an instrument to suppress pluralism. It is a tool in the hands of the regime", said the leader of the Democrats.
Berisha's statements show his double-standard stance towards the Special Prosecution Office. The DP leader distinguishes between "good" prosecutors when investigating the government and "bad" ones when investigating the opposition.
