The meeting of the Council for Regulation, Mandates and Immunity in the Albanian Parliament, where the request for the lifting or not of the immunity of MP Belinda Balluku is being reviewed, has been postponed without setting a date for the next meeting.
During the discussions, the deputies agreed to receive the materials submitted by the Special Prosecution Office, which are located on a USB. Initially, there were debates regarding whether or not the documentation should be removed from the premises of the Mandates Council, but in the end the parties agreed that the deputies would take the USB with them for review.
Sources indicate that prosecutors have clarified that the material can only be accessed by members of the Mandates Council, respecting legal procedures, and that agreement has been given for Balluk's lawyer to also be familiar with the evidence.
The file prepared by SPAK to support the request for lifting immunity contains around 10,000 pages. For this reason, the defense has requested more time to familiarize itself with the material, while the prosecution has stuck to the maximum deadline of 3 to 5 days.
The debate also included the date of the next meeting. Part of the majority agreed to postpone the session until January 19, while the opposition opposed it, demanding that the meeting be held earlier, specifically on Monday.
The meeting was accompanied by strong debates and, despite the decision to postpone, no agreement was reached between the parties on a specific date. Meanwhile, members of the Mandates Council have received the USB with about 10 thousand pages of SPAK evidence against Belinda Balluku.
