Sali Berisha declared today that he has responded "throughout his life" to every summons from the justice system, but the way his statement is worded suggests that he is not expected to appear before SPAK tomorrow, despite the official summons.
"The announcement should come as it has with dozens of other announcements. Never ask me 'will you go?' I will go in any case that I am called," said Berisha, a response that implies that he does not consider SPAK's call
The Special Prosecution Office has sent summonses to three addresses: his apartment, the DP and the Parliament. The document has also been made public by several media outlets. Despite this, Berisha hinted that he will not appear tomorrow, returning to a well-known pattern of his delays in appearing before the Special Prosecution Office, similar to that of the “Partizani” case.
Meanwhile, SPAK has intensified its investigations into January 21, one of the most serious cases in Albanian justice. The former Interior Minister and other senior officials of the time have been seen testifying before prosecutors in recent days, as part of an investigation that is expanding significantly.
In this situation, Berisha's statement today is seen as a clear signal that his confrontation with SPAK, at least for tomorrow, will not happen.
