Prime Minister Edi Rama does not share the idea of replacing Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj with Ogerta Manastirliu. Even though the Constitutional Court decided not to allow elections in the capital on November 9, leaving Veliaj in office, Rama is consolidating Manastirliu's role in Tirana's political leadership.
During a meeting with socialist structures in unit no. 5, Rama spoke about the situation created after Veliaj's arrest and the Constitutional Court's decision, emphasizing that "Tirana cannot waste time." He pointed out the need for cleaning, maintenance and the normal functioning of public services, while declaring that the government will support the municipality in managing the budget and urgent city affairs.
"The Constitutional Court came out with a decision from our side, I have no reason to doubt that they saw it from a reasonable perspective, despite the fact that it is contrary to ours. Until then, we are here, you are here, and the city needs to be cleaned up and function normally. We are supporting the municipality to do its best for the budget," Rama said.
He added that similar meetings will continue throughout the territory of Tirana, together with Ogerta Manastirliu, to learn about the community's problems, a move that is seen as strengthening its role in the local governance of the capital and preparation for elections.
