Opposition MPs have sent an official request to the President of the Republic, asking him to return the approved law on gender equality to the Parliament for reconsideration. In the submitted document, they argue that the law is unconstitutional and present their reasons for this position.
"We ask you to rise to the occasion, at least once during your term as President of the Republic, to stop the division, deformation, denaturation, and to follow the advice of religious communities, to preserve the Albanian tradition that no rule in our society can be imposed in contradiction with the representatives of religious communities. For all of the above, to return for reconsideration to the Assembly the law "On Gender Equality", according to the competence recognized by the Constitution in its article 85," the DP request states.
The Gender Equality Law was approved on November 6 by the Assembly with 77 votes in favor from the majority, while 36 opposition MPs voted against it, who have harshly criticized it, stating that its purpose is to destroy the family.
