The investigation into the double murder that shocked Greece on October 5, in which the Greek owner of the “Ammos” campsite and his Albanian employee were shot dead, is becoming increasingly complex. Greek authorities report that the testimonies of the two arrested are contradictory, while scientific evidence is casting new doubts on the role of each in the serious incident. The incident took place in the tourist area of Foinikounta, in Meséní, where two people were shot dead on the evening of October 5 inside the “Ammos” campsite. The investigation has focused on two young men, one of Greek-British origin, who is considered the main suspected perpetrator, and the other, a 22-year-old of the same age, who surrendered himself a few days after the incident, admitting his involvement as an accomplice in the crime.
In the Kalamata Court, where preliminary hearings are taking place, the young Greek-British man has denied his involvement, stating through his lawyer that he “did not enter the campsite at all” that fateful night. However, his position has been significantly weakened, as he has been directly mentioned by his accomplice as the person who was present at the crime scene.
According to police reports, the grandson of the campsite owner, who is the only eyewitness, identified the main suspect without hesitation during the official identification held in a special room at the police headquarters (GADA).
Despite this, laboratory tests have yielded unexpected results. No traces of gunpowder were found on the clothes seized from the apartment of the Greek-British suspect, which he is suspected of wearing on the night of the crime, which could complicate the prosecution's position. Investigators are also analyzing his mobile phone, with the aim of building a clear picture of his movements on the night of the incident.
Another key element of the case is the testimony of the 22-year-old accomplice, who claimed that after the incident he swam for 7-8 hours to leave the crime scene and then walked to Kalamata, where he was located a day later at the KTEL bus station. This testimony is being verified for inconsistencies and compared with security camera footage and testimonies from local residents.
At the center of the investigation has also been a white car, which, according to some testimonies, was seen driving near the "Ammos" campsite not only on the night of the murder, but also a month earlier, on September 7, when it is suspected that there was a failed assassination attempt.
Sources close to the investigation have revealed that authorities are close to identifying the driver of the vehicle, and that according to preliminary data, it could be a woman. This new lead, if confirmed, could change the course of the entire investigation, opening a new scenario on the motives and people involved in the double murder that has shocked Greek public opinion.
