Lawyers are boycotting all court proceedings from October 20 to 25 following the arrest of their colleague Ulian Barjami.
In a public statement, the Chamber of Advocates announced that they have decided that from October 20 to 25, they will boycott all criminal proceedings.
Specifically, the decisions that were taken:
Blocking, through boycott, all criminal proceedings, both in investigation and trial, at all levels, including proceedings in the Constitutional Court, for the dates October 20 to October 25. Participation in criminal cases with the purpose of assigning, changing, replacing and terminating security measures is excluded from the effects of this decision.
The non-participation of lawyers in criminal proceedings both in investigation and trial on the above dates is an objective reason for postponing judicial proceedings.
Failure to implement this decision by lawyers constitutes a serious disciplinary violation, as a result it serves as a basis for initiating disciplinary proceedings by the Disciplinary Committee, accompanied by the imposition of more serious disciplinary measures, suspension up to and including the revocation of the license to practice the profession.
The Steering Committee requests the urgent and responsible engagement to review this issue by the High Inspector of Justice, the High Judicial Council and the High Prosecutorial Council.
