An Albanian citizen has been caught by Croatian authorities with over 700,000 euros in undeclared cash, in one of the largest cash seizures at Croatia's borders.
According to a statement from Croatian Customs, customs officers, in cooperation with police at the Karasović border crossing, prevented a smuggling attempt during a check on the way out of Croatia.
During a detailed search of a vehicle driven by the Albanian citizen, authorities found 702,435 euros in cash hidden inside the vehicle.
According to Croatian Customs, the driver had not fulfilled his legal obligation to declare the amount to the Customs Administration or Border Police, either in writing or electronically. He had hidden the money in the vehicle.
The money was seized, while the Albanian citizen was arrested, suspected of committing the criminal offense of smuggling, and was placed in custody.
