The Special Prosecution Office strongly condemns the unprecedented murder of Judge Astrit Kalaja, an event that occurred within the premises of the Court of Appeal, Tirana.
We express our condolences to Judge Kalaja's family, relatives and colleagues at this painful moment.
We also express our solidarity with all judges, prosecutors, lawyers and justice system employees, who face great challenges every day in the performance of their duties.
This serious act should serve as an urgent call for increased security in the courts, strengthening protective measures for judges, prosecutors, lawyers and justice workers, as well as for a rapid institutional response to prevent the recurrence of similar acts.
