A shocking event occurred this morning at the premises of the Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction in Tirana, where Judge Astrit Kalaja was shot to death during a court session.
The incident occurred while Judge Kalaja was reviewing a court case involving Gjon Shkambi, when the latter pulled out a gun and shot him in the heart. Despite efforts to urgently transport him to the Trauma Hospital, Kalaja died as a result of his injuries.
Two other people, a father and son, identified as Rakip and Ervis Kurtaj, were also injured in the shooting. According to preliminary information, one of them is currently in the operating room, but is out of danger.
The suspected perpetrator of the incident was arrested by the numerous police forces that immediately arrived at the scene. Meanwhile, investigations to fully clarify the motive and circumstances of the assassination continue.
