
A serious event shook the premises of the Court of Appeal in Tirana this Monday, where judge Astrit Kalaja was killed.
Kalaja was originally from Shkodra and a well-known figure in the Albanian judicial system. He was reconfirmed in office in December 2019, as part of the Vetting process.
A graduate of the Faculty of Law with the title of "Jurist", Kalaja began his career as a judge at the Shkodra Judicial District Court. Since 2004, he has been serving as a judge at the Shkodra Court of Appeal.
In 2011, he completed his postgraduate studies with a master's degree at the University of Tirana and during his career he also served as a member of the Electoral College.
