The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) has read the indictment for the defendants in the case related to the Agricultural University of Tirana, who were tried in a summary procedure. According to the indictment, it concerns nine tender procedures conducted fictitiously during 2022, with a total value of around 90 million new lek.
The prosecutor in the case, Dritan Prençi, requested a sentence of 3 years in prison for Edmond Terthorja, Amarildo Lleshi, Serafin Skenderi and Altin Murto, with a reduction of the sentence by 1/3 due to the shortened procedure, as well as the removal of the right to exercise public functions for 5 years.
For some of the other defendants, the prosecution requested prison sentences, but with suspension of execution and conversion to probation. Specifically, Klara Jahollari was requested to be sentenced to 1 year in prison, with suspension and 150 hours of probation, while Agim Sefa and Mehmet Qoshja were each sentenced to 1.6 years in prison, with suspension and probation for 2 years.
Also, for several other defendants, including Enkeleida Sallaku, Romina Koto, Artur Koleci, Blenard Spaho, Tedi Proda, Elvira Shtogu, Tone Vukaj, Eridiana Cuni, Erjola Kopali, Etleva Shore, Ilir Kapaj, Radion Dhromi, Klea Lekoçaj, Mimoza Sefa, Mimoza Shehu and Rezearta Dervishi, sentences ranging from 1 year to 1.6 years in prison were requested, with a reduction due to the shortened procedure and conversion to probation or suspension of the sentence.
Meanwhile, Piro Zoga, Ilir Kusi, Bejo Bizhga, Dritan Laçi and Arjan Buliaj are being tried in ordinary proceedings, separate from the rest of the case.
The Special Court has scheduled the next session for March 18, where the defendants' defense will be presented, and then the verdict is expected to be announced. The defendants, including university officials, businessmen and others, are accused of corruption, violation of equality in tenders and abuse of office.
