The poor quality of works on several road axes in the country has caused, after recent rainfall, important segments to suffer serious damage, making it difficult for citizens to move around, to the point of completely blocking them.
The most problematic axis is Librazhd–Prrenjas, which is currently impassable due to severe damage in the area known as “Arrat e Gurrës”. The situation has isolated several cities in the southeast from the rest of the country. It is suspected that the landslide was caused by the works being carried out on the new construction route within the framework of Corridor VIII, as well as by excavations for inerts in the Shkumbin River. However, the Albanian Road Authority (ARRSH) denies this claim, attributing the damage to rainfall. As a solution, the institution has proposed the construction of an alternative road along the railway, in the Shkumbin River bed, but without a concrete deadline for the completion of the works. As a result, the chaos in the southeast is expected to last for several months.
The Boboshticë–Dardhe axis has also shown problems, where lateral cracks in the road surface have been observed. This segment connects the village of Boboshticë with the tourist area of Dardhe and constitutes an important junction for traffic in the Korça area. About five years ago, the segment underwent an asphalt resurfacing as part of an investment financed by the Albanian Development Fund, with the aim of improving traffic conditions and increasing road safety. The damage currently observed raises questions about the quality of the work carried out.
The Maliq–Lozhan–Strelcë road, inaugurated almost a year ago, has also suffered significant damage in some segments. In addition to damage to the side embankments, the asphalt is cracked, while in some parts there is subsidence of the road surface and sliding of the side slopes, making traffic problematic for drivers. The damage began shortly after the completion of the works, raising doubts about the quality of the project's implementation.
The Vlahine-Poçem road is also problematic, as it has suffered asphalt damage in several segments, with long and deep cracks that make it difficult for vehicles to move. Although it has not yet been two years since its construction, the road already presents serious structural problems.
Meanwhile, the lower ring road of the city of Burrel is currently out of service, directly affecting the residents who live along it. The road has suffered four collapses, two of which have completely damaged the roadway. Many residents are unable to drive near their homes, while the ongoing collapses have put their homes at risk.
The reconstruction of this ring road cost the Albanian Road Administration around 1.3 billion lek. Although the works were completed last year, the segment was not fully operational, as the damage began with the first rainfall in the fall of 2025.
