A sum of 1 million euros hidden in an improvised space inside a van has been found by Customs officials and border police in Merdare.
KALLXO.com has learned details about the suspects who were bringing 1 million euros into Kosovo undeclared to customs authorities.
The suspects are Ahmet Kaziu, a police officer in the ranks of the State Police, specifically at Police Station number 5 in Tirana, Ardit Laska and Etnik Ahmaxhokaj.
The three were initially detained for a check by Kosovo Customs, while digital X-ray equipment found several suspected cash items hidden inside a van.
On the other hand, Kosovo Customs has announced that on 24.02.2026, at the border crossing point in Merdare, Kosovo Customs officials selected a vehicle for detailed control, at the entrance to the territory of Kosovo, based on risk analysis and standard operating procedures.
The vehicle was initially checked through an X-ray scanning device, where the first indications of the existence of a suspiciously modified space in its floor were identified.
"Following these indications, Kosovo Customs has requested assistance from Border Police officials, who have provided technical support through fiberoptic equipment. During the joint control, the suspicions raised by the scanner were confirmed with the discovery of undeclared monetary assets, hidden in an improvised space inside the vehicle," reads the Kosovo Customs announcement dated 24.02.2026.
According to initial estimates, the amount of cash is suspected to be around 1 million euros.
According to the announcement, Kosovo Customs emphasizes that the use of advanced control technology, such as X-Ray scanners, remains one of the key tools for detecting smuggling cases and preventing illegal financial activities. / KALLXO.com
