The head of the Albanian Road Authority, Ami Kozeli, says that the causes of the damage to the "Arrat e Gurrës" bridge and the blockage of the Librazhd-Prrenjas axis are intense rainfall, as well as river erosion.
The Director of the ARA ruled out with full conviction the possibility that the damage was a result of the works being carried out above the bridge for Corridor VIII or even from the excavations carried out in the river to obtain inert materials.
Kozeli also said that, to resolve the blockage, a new alternative route will be built along the railway, on the Shkumbin River bed, until the situation with the landslides stabilizes.
However, the chaos in the southeast is likely to continue for several months, as the head of the ARA did not give a concrete deadline for how long the works will last. According to him, it will take time to build a new bridge and divert the riverbed, which touches the railway line.
