Today, residents of the villages of Koçaj, Kokërdhak and Kodra e Dani held a protest in front of the Bulqizë Municipality. They opposed an issue that was scheduled to be discussed at the Municipal Council meeting this Friday.
The meeting's agenda included an item that provided for the removal from the forest and pasture fund of the area where the pipeline route would pass and where the relevant building would be built. For this reason, the residents forcibly entered the municipality premises to ask the municipal councilors not to approve this decision. After this situation, they were received in a meeting by the mayor, Festime Mjeshtri.
During the meeting with the residents, the Mayor did not allow the media to be present and, according to those present, activated the administration to remove them from the municipality premises. The residents said that from this meeting they received a promise of support from the mayor, while warning that they will oppose the construction of the HPP at all costs.
This is not the first time that residents of these areas have mobilized on issues related to public property. In 2018, they forcefully stopped the exploitation of the White Mountain by a company that intended to use it for pellet production.
