IMT is the acronym for the Inspectorate for the Protection of the Territory. In other words, it is the office that implements one of the government's next actions - that of removing tents and chairs from bars in Tirana and elsewhere. SPAK arrested IMT inspectors Gerald Fuçia and Edmond Çela, as they are suspected of having received money from a business for tents. Niko Zmalaj, an employee of the Municipality of Tirana, Roads Directorate (DPN 2), was also arrested. Meanwhile, Klajdi Zhilla, an inspector who also served as the driver of the director of the IMT's Land Directorate, Ersid Hasanllari, was declared wanted.
At first glance, it seems like a routine operation for such inspectorates, which have long been known as hotbeds of corruption. There is no Albanian who has not experienced it at least once. Inspectors go from business to business, impose fines and collect bribes. The typical profile? A guy in his thirties, dressed in expensive clothes, with a leather bag under his arm and a belly that is rounding out like a pocket.
Sometimes it happens that some of them end up in prison – like the two arrested yesterday. But most of them reach the “fat” without being disturbed. The funniest thing is always the way the public reaction appears after a scandal: leaders who appear distanced from the “individual acts” of their subordinates. The same happened yesterday with the head of the Field Directorate at the IMT of Tirana, Ersid Hasanllari, who is missing a CV and a photo even on the official website of the institution.
But the statement of distancing was not lacking. In the spirit of the big boss's propaganda, Hasanllari also made it clear that the responsibility is only personal. And they are not to blame, if you think about how Erion Veliaj himself escaped after all his "actions" and affairs.
