A Serb woman from Mitrovica and her partner, a member of the Croatian Air Force, have been arrested in Vis, Croatia, on suspicion of spying for Serbia. In addition to the Croatian police, Europol is also involved in the investigation against them. The suspicions are that the Croatian pilot gave secrets to his girlfriend, who then passed them on to the Serbian List.
According to sources from the Croatian media outlet "Index", the two suspects were interviewed on Wednesday and a decision against them is now awaited.
According to information, the Croatian pilot was also engaged in KFOR in Kosovo and he is suspected of having given his Serbian girlfriend confidential information to then pass on to members of the Serbian List. According to "Index", the suspect gave his partner information about the movements of Serbs in northern Kosovo from the end of 2022 until this year, as well as about the movements of KFOR troops.
Among other things, investigators suspect that he revealed to her important information regarding Zubin-Potok, one of the problematic municipalities between Serbs and Kosovo Albanians in the north.
Zubin-Potok has been a site of blockades, protests, and conflict between local Serbs and Kosovo authorities, as well as international forces, KFOR and EULEX.
The two are also accused of exchanging information regarding the transportation of arrested Serb Dejan Pantić, a former Kosovo police officer, who is accused of participating in the attacks on the CEC offices in North Mitrovica.
His arrest in December 2022 had sparked tensions among Kosovo Serbs in the northern municipalities - with barricades set up in Jarinje and Brnjak lasting for almost three weeks, with the sole demand: Pantic's release or transfer from prison.
Since Kosovo does not have helicopters, the Ministry of Interior requested KFOR's assistance in transferring Pantic from the police base near Jarinje to another prison. After almost 19 days, the court decided to place him under house arrest. Dejan Pantic was sentenced to two years in prison for hooliganism, but his security measure is a bail of 30,000 euros.
According to Croatian media, the Serbian suspect worked for a foreign company in Serbia and was known in journalism as a reporter from Mitrovica.
They were arrested on July 25 this year. The Croatian pilot was taken into custody, while the suspect was ordered to be deported from Croatia and placed in the detention center for foreigners in Trilje. “Index” reported that investigators found communications on their phones through which they concluded that they were part of espionage activities.
