Ardian Halili, the former chief inspector of the Inspectorate of Territory Protection (IMT) in Durrës, has been arrested by the police for illegal construction. He is suspected of having built several holiday homes without a permit in the village of Shetaj, Ishëm, in 2017, while he was on duty. This complex, known as the “Saint Michelle Residence”, includes luxury villas, swimming pools and service areas, and was built near the coast, in a protected area.
Durrës Police announced that Halili was arrested by specialists for the Investigation of Economic and Financial Crime. Investigations have revealed that this resort was built in 2017, when Halili was at the head of IMT. This case highlights that illegal construction has also affected high levels of local administration.
Halili held the position of Chief Inspector of IMT Durrës from 2017 to April 2021. He is the husband of the former Durrës prosecutor, Rabiana Halili, who after being dismissed from Vetting received a lawyer's license and today defends, among others, Emiljano Shullazi.
