A group of miners gathered today in front of the Albanian Parliament building to protest what they consider to be unfair treatment in pension benefits and the lack of institutional support for their category.
Protesters expressed dissatisfaction with partial pensions that, according to them, do not reflect the difficulty and danger of working in the mines. They demanded the adoption of a special status for miners, as well as additional benefits related to the nature of their work.
"We do not receive a full pension and have never benefited from benefits that belong to this category. We demand a statute and concrete support," said some of the protesters during the rally.
The miners also emphasized that over the years they have not had a functional union to protect their rights, which according to them has contributed to the lack of representation and resolution of problems.
During the protest, they called on MPs and the media to visit their workplaces closely to see the conditions in which they operate.
