After reopening the process for Arben Frroku, due to obligations arising from a decision of the Strasbourg Court, the Constitutional Court rejected his request and sealed the sentence of life imprisonment for the businessman. Frroku has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Chief Commissioner Dritan Lamaj and is currently in prison in the Netherlands.
Based on Frroku's appeal, the Constitutional Court overturned its 2018 decision, in accordance with the Strasbourg decision, and after reviewing his claims, decided to dismiss them, as it found them unfounded.
Arben Frroku had requested the reopening of the judicial process and the annulment as unconstitutional of decisions no. 73, dated 29.06.2015 of the former Court of Appeal for Serious Crimes, no. 443, dated 08.06.2017 of the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court. He had also requested the return of the case for retrial before the competent court, ordering its retrial with another panel.
Businessman Frroku had a long battle with justice and at the end of the day he was acquitted by the Serious Crimes Court. The Serious Crimes Appeal found him guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment, but in the meantime Frroku had fled the country and was arrested in the Netherlands.
With this decision of the Constitutional Court, a life sentence is sealed for Frroku. He is accused of killing Chief Commissioner Dritan Lamaj in February 2013.
