
The Special Court announced the verdict for 8 defendants in the sterilization case.
Former Deputy Minister of Health Klodian Rjepaj was sentenced to 6 years in prison for theft by abuse of office and forgery of documents. Due to the summary trial, his sentence was reduced to 4 years. He was acquitted of the criminal group charge.
The same sentence was given to businessman Ilir Rrapaj of “Sani Service” who owned the lion’s share of the sterilization concession. Rrapaj was also found not guilty of the criminal group charge.
Marsela Serjani was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison, but her sentence was reduced to 2 years and 4 months in a summary trial. The court lifted the house arrest security measure, as the pre-trial detention measure is higher than the sentence.
Sajmir Kadiu was sentenced the same way as Sejranaj, and his security measure was also lifted.
Petret Mersini was sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison, with a shortened sentence of 2 years and 4 months. He will not go to prison after being placed on probation for 24 months.
The same sentence as Mersini was given to Arben Gjata, the former rector of the University of Medicine.
Gent Burazeri was ultimately sentenced to 80 hours of community service, while Naile Ajazi was sentenced to probation for a period of 24 months.
