A serious crime shocked the Albanian community in Greece, where 40-year-old Pandeli Nakoleci stabbed his wife, 36-year-old Marjola Nakoleci, to death in the city of Volos.
The victim's sister has revealed harrowing details about the abuse Marjola experienced during her marriage. According to her, the 36-year-old was a victim of physical and sexual violence by her husband, who raped her and forced her to get pregnant to prevent him from divorcing her. The sister said that Marjola was forced to have frequent abortions to manage the situation.
"She would go and have abortions often," the sister said, adding that the 40-year-old constantly threatened her that "if she divorced him, he would do worse."
According to her testimony, her husband's behavior changed after the arrival of the children, becoming abusive and violent even in front of them. The victim's family was aware of the situation, but did not file a complaint with the authorities.
"For many years we didn't speak and it's our fault. Because I was telling my sister to divorce him, but she was afraid. I did everything I could to help her, with money, but she couldn't afford it," she said. "He would tell the children 'stay away, shut up' and beat him in front of them."
Marjola's sister expressed regret for not being able to help her more, indicating that the 36-year-old lived in constant fear of her husband.
