A 65-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson. According to police, he started a fire on his land in the village of Rabijak, Berat, but the situation got out of control.
"The Berat Police Commissariat arrested citizen VR, 65 years old, resident of the village of Rabijak, Berat, after it is suspected that he set fire to his land yesterday. The fire got out of control and endangered homes and land planted with fruit trees," the police statement said. In recent days, the police have arrested around 50 people suspected of arson, while 100 others have been processed at large.
The fires in the country have caused one victim, as well as extensive damage, mainly to livestock.
