Residents and businesses along the “Epidamn” Boulevard in Durrës have once again protested against the “TID” project, which envisages the demolition of a number of buildings in the area. They say they have been faced with “imposed choices” and are demanding the cancellation of the decision to vacate the properties.
According to the residents, the decision to demolish their homes and businesses was taken without transparency and a clear consultation process. Through a petition being signed by the community, they call on the Municipality of Durres and the Inspectorate of Territorial Protection to cancel the decision to demolish the buildings.
Residents claim that the selection of buildings to be demolished was done in a clientelist manner. According to them, while the existing buildings are scheduled to be demolished, work has begun on the construction of new buildings in the same area, which they say raises doubts about the criteria followed.
They report that on the evening of February 18, the mayor of Durrës, Emiriana Sako, conducted an inspection in the area, but without holding meetings with residents. According to them, the lack of communication has increased uncertainty and concern about the fate of the properties.
Residents warn that they will continue to oppose the project and demand full transparency from the responsible institutions. As of the time of publication of the news, there has been no official reaction regarding the claims raised by the community.
