
The Special Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the Criminal Court of Appeal for the conviction of the former mayor of Pogradec, Eduart Kapri, and two of his subordinates.
Kapri was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison for the charge of "abuse of office" committed in collaboration. Upon application for summary judgment, the sentence was reduced to 1 year and then suspended on probation for a period of 2 years.
His two subordinates, Besjan Meço and Besmira Niko, were sentenced to 8 months each and then placed on probation for a year and four months in prison.
The three defendants were also given an additional sentence that prohibits them from exercising public functions for 5 years. Kapri and his subordinates are accused of allowing illegal works to be carried out in a 14-story building owned by the company founded by Kapri himself, which is managed by his brother.
