The damaged road segment to Korça remains blocked, while the optimistic forecast for opening at noon today has fallen with the ground. The Director of the Albanian Road Authority (ARRSH) admitted that active landslides are continuing and make safe intervention in the area impossible.
According to him, what was thought to be a limited landslide of about 6 meters turned out to be deeper and more stubborn than predicted. The massif continues to move, while plans for immediate stabilization remain in limbo.
"Critical situation. Landslides are active. The measures taken with bypasses and secondary ring roads were not effective and the road will continue to remain blocked," the director said.
Specialists are continuously monitoring the area, while alternatives for traffic diversion are being considered. The arrangement of the rural road Spathar - Egnatia Road - Dardhë - Hotolisht is under discussion, as well as another option from Dragostunjë.
"We cannot say for sure about an imminent and sustainable solution," he added, implying that nature does not work with official schedules and deadlines.
Meanwhile, authorities are calling on citizens to avoid unnecessary movements in the endangered area and to follow official announcements until the situation is fully stabilized.
