The village of Goricani in the Dimal municipality continues to suffer the consequences of the floods of the past three days, caused by the opening of the dam gates. Around 300 hectares of greenhouses in this area still remain under water, while the damage to agriculture and livestock is reported to be very large.
During the flood, greenhouses were planted with tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, cucumbers and other vegetable crops. The water level reached up to one meter in some plots, completely destroying production and making it impossible to plant new seedlings without the soil drying out. Considerable amounts of damaged products were dumped into drainage canals, as they cannot be marketed.
A livestock farm has also suffered the same fate, with around 70 sheep and lambs swept away by the water, while food stocks have also been destroyed. Farmers say the damage is incalculable and many are on the verge of bankruptcy.
The residents point out that the village was flooded seven times during December 2025 and early 2026, and, according to them, although the damages have been verified several times, no compensation has been provided. They are seeking financial support to compensate for the losses and the construction of a protective embankment, in order to prevent repeated floods.
According to farmers, land recovery and the start of a new production cycle will be possible only after 2-3 months, when the soil has completely dried and conditions are created for new plantings.
