The search operation for Ilir Kurti in the Osumi Canyons has been accompanied by another incident, as a 22-year-old from Berat remained isolated in the waters of the Osumi River, while he was engaged in assisting RENEA forces in finding the missing 42-year-old.
Xhuljano Kaloti has been trapped since noon this Friday, and efforts to extract him from the area where he is stuck have failed so far.
According to information from residents of the town of Skrapar, the incident occurred during the search for the body of 42-year-old Ilir Kurti, who is suspected of having thrown himself into the river on the evening of February 19. During the operation, one of the rafts capsized due to the strong current of the water, causing the 22-year-old to become stuck between rocks in the area known as the "Third Strait", at the entrance to a cave.
It is learned that Kaloti has been in the water for hours, while aerial vehicles have been requested for aerial rope intervention, but so far there have been no reports of their arrival at the scene.
The low temperatures and icy water in the canyons pose a serious risk to the young man's life. Residents in the area are trying to help him by throwing ropes from a height, while the intervention of the fire department is impossible due to the difficult terrain.
The Osumi Canyon stretches for about 12 kilometers and reaches depths of up to 90 meters. In conditions of high flows, intervention in this area is considered to be of maximum risk, especially for persons not trained in specialized rescue operations.
