An 11-month-old baby has died in Turin after allegedly choking on a morsel of food.
The incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. yesterday evening in the Parella neighborhood. "Hurry up, my nephew is drowning," the baby's aunt called in despair when she called the 118 emergency service. Within minutes, two ambulances arrived at the scene.
Rescue teams tried to resuscitate the toddler for about 25 minutes, including during transport to the emergency room of the Maria Vittoria hospital. The baby, of Nigerian origin, arrived at the hospital in cardiac arrest. His mother, who is pregnant and about to give birth, was also hospitalized at the same hospital.
Despite the efforts of doctors, the baby did not survive. According to initial reports, it is suspected that he was suffocated by a bite, but an autopsy and other forensic investigations will be carried out to fully clarify the causes.
The police also arrived at the hospital, and the prosecution is expected to open an investigation to fully clarify the circumstances of this tragedy.
