German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the war in Iran benefits no one and that its consequences are to the detriment of everyone.
In a statement made this Wednesday, Merz announced that he is in daily communication with international leaders regarding the situation in Iran, including British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
He added that Germany has not been called upon to give its opinion on the conflict in Iran, while expressing skepticism about whether there is a concrete plan to achieve democratic change in the country.
Merz further emphasized that the United States and Europe must jointly increase pressure on Russia to achieve peace in Ukraine. According to him, when the right moment comes, both Germany and Ukraine will participate in negotiations on post-war security guarantees.
Speaking recently in the Bundestag, the German Chancellor also underlined the importance of concluding the trade agreement between the European Union and the United States as soon as possible.
