The Larissa Prosecutor's Office has sent an official notice to Albanian citizen Pano Ruçi, setting him a deadline of 10 days to appear and provide evidence regarding the type of tests he is requesting to be performed on his son's body. The order was announced today in the office of his lawyer, Zoe Konstantopoulou, who has been following the case since the beginning.
Ruçi, who lost his son Denis Ruçi in the tragic Tempi train accident two years ago, won the right to demand a full reinvestigation of the case after a long protest and a 23-day hunger strike in front of the Greek Parliament. Through this decision, he has been granted the right to request an exhumation of the body, DNA analysis and a new investigation into the causes of death, in an attempt to fully uncover the truth about the loss of his son.
According to the Prosecutor's Office's announcement, if Ruçi does not appear or provide an official response within the 10-day deadline, the investigative bodies will consider that he waives any request or right to further examinations of the deceased's body. In this case, the legal procedure will continue "ex officio", that is, on the initiative of the prosecutor's office itself, according to the orders and instructions of the competent forensic doctor, including the possibility of exhuming the body.
The Tempi train accident case, which occurred in February 2023, remains one of the worst tragedies in modern Greek history, where dozens of people lost their lives, including the young Albanian Denis Ruçi. His family has repeatedly demanded transparency and justice, arguing that the circumstances of their son's death have not been fully and impartially investigated.
