Following the disruptions and tensions in yesterday's Parliament session, where the opposition prevented Prime Minister Edi Rama from presenting the government program, the European Union Delegation in Tirana has reacted by emphasizing the importance of democratic dialogue.
“Parliament should be a forum for constructive debate, where policies are discussed and alternative views are presented,” said the delegation's statement, which regrets that the Albanian public was deprived of the right to be properly informed about the new government program.
The EU underlines that in the context of the accession process, Parliament plays a key role in approving EU-related reforms, and this process must be inclusive and transparent.
According to the Delegation, the parliamentary debate on the government's program for the next four years would have been an important opportunity to address the common objective of EU membership – an ambition that encompasses all political forces. They express disappointment that this opportunity was denied to the public.
The EU Delegation reaffirms its commitment to supporting a parliament that fosters open and inclusive dialogue and calls on all political parties to contribute to Albania's European integration process.
