Albanians continue to lead the region in fear of not being able to secure enough food. The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World report, compiled by five specialized United Nations agencies, has highlighted that 33% of Albanians experience food insecurity, a figure much higher than in all Balkan countries, which range from 6.6% to 15%.
Albania has a high percentage of citizens who feel unsafe even compared to the global average, which is 28%.
Food insecurity, according to the experts who drafted the report, has marked a slight decline at the global level.
On the other hand, the report highlighted that about 8.2% of the global population or about 673 million people experienced hunger in 2024, marking a decrease compared to 2023.
Although this decline is positive, the latest estimates still remain above pre-pandemic levels, as high food inflation in recent years has contributed to a slow recovery in food security. /euronews albania/
