For days, residents of Rrjoll have been protesting against the construction of a resort in their area, opposing what they consider a land grab and violation of property rights. Footage of clashes and violence against residents has circulated in a small section of the media, while political reactions have been minimal.
Today, for the first time, a majority MP has come out publicly against violence. SP MP Ermal Pacaj, in a Facebook post, writes:
"What about this?! How could this happen to me?!
Absolutely outrageous, too much.
I condemn and despise the beating and kicking of the resident and inhabitants of Rrjoll.
An unacceptable, vandal and bandit act. These problems are not solved with violence and brutality, they are solved with justice and legitimate institutions, respecting the inalienable rights guaranteed to us by the Constitution!"
This is the first reaction from the majority to a situation that has produced tension on the ground and accusations of the use of force against citizens.
Meanwhile, just a day ago, two opposition MPs went to the area, turning the issue into an open political battle. So far, no official reaction has come from the government or the responsible institutions to clarify the circumstances of the violence and the legal status of the project.
The resort being built in that area is being built by businessman Bashkim Ulaj, a well-known name in the construction sector and large tourism projects in the country.
Essentially, the Rrjoll issue is not just about a resort. It touches a deeper wound: the relationship between development and property, between investment and constitutional law. And above all, it touches a red line — the use of violence against protesting citizens.
When the first reaction from the majority comes after days of tension and after the opposition has been physically on the ground, the question remains: will this moral condemnation be followed by concrete institutional actions?
Because, as the MP himself writes, problems are not solved with fists. They are solved with justice.
