After the "initiative" to convince Albanians that corruption has not increased during his government, Prime Minister Edi Rama has moved on to another sector, declaring that money is not laundered in construction.
During the meeting with Albanian entrepreneurs, Rama admitted that the construction sector has problems, but according to him, it is disgusting and unacceptable for it to be included in the framework of crime.
"I don't even question that not everything is pure, clear as the sun's light, but to put this evident success of the country, which the construction sector makes visible as soon as someone comes to Albania, into the framework of crime is something disgusting and unacceptable. Do some people find it difficult to believe how Albania can do such constructions? No wonder they find it difficult. There are many reasons why Albania can do them and they are easily readable by those who want to read them," said Rama.
However, the Prime Minister should know that money laundering in construction is not a term invented through rhetoric, but has been documented by reports from national and international institutions.
The SPAK 2025 report, on page 31, mentions the construction sector as one of the options used by organized crime for money laundering.
The report published by the US Department of State emphasizes that the Albanian economy is used for "laundering the proceeds of crime, particularly through the construction sector", also contributing to corruption and destabilization of institutions.
So, there is a big difference between rhetoric and reports. The former can be propaganda, while the latter is based on facts.
