The Supreme Court of Brazil has decided not to accept the defense's request for the release of Ervin Mata, leaving in force the arrest order with the aim of his extradition to Albania.
The decision was signed by Judge Alexandre de Moraes, who assessed that detention remains necessary to guarantee the development of the extradition procedure and to avoid the risk of the wanted person's departure.
The document states that the Albanian authorities have timely and properly submitted the official extradition request, while the Brazilian Attorney General's Office has expressed its support for the continuation of the procedure. The court also rejects the defense's claims that procedural deadlines were exceeded, arguing that the necessary documentation was submitted in accordance with legal requirements.
The court also rejects the request to replace pre-trial detention with lighter security measures and does not accept the conduct of additional investigations requested by the defense.
With this decision, Ervin Mata will continue to remain in custody in Brazil, while further consideration of Albania's request for his extradition is awaited.
