US President Donald Trump has rejected Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's objections to a potential sale of US F-35 fighter jets to Turkey.
"Nobody tells me what we should sell," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, defending Washington's right to make decisions on military exports.
Trump called Turkey "an extraordinary ally" and praised Ankara's role in regional developments, especially in Syria. He acknowledged that Turkey does not have warm relations with Israel and Prime Minister Netanyahu, but stressed that the partnership between the United States and Turkey remains strong.
During the NATO summit in Turkey, Trump said he would "definitely consider" restoring sales of F-35 jets to Ankara, describing Turkey as a country "much more loyal than many other countries."
Meanwhile, speaking about the situation with Iran, the American president said that he and Netanyahu are "very close" in their positions, although he admitted that there is "a small difference" between them on how to handle the Iranian issue.
