Pakistan and Qatar have stepped up diplomatic efforts to end the conflict between the United States and Iran, exchanging messages between the two sides following their responses to a joint formula for reducing tensions.
According to Pakistani government sources cited by Anadolu, the development comes after US President Donald Trump ordered a temporary suspension of the bombing campaign against Iran, after two weeks of incessant attacks.
Islamabad and Doha have proposed that the US and Iran return to the positions they held before July 9 as a first step towards resuming negotiations. Sources say both sides have expressed readiness for dialogue and diplomacy, raising hopes for a political solution to the conflict.
However, mediators warn that the situation remains fragile, while there is a risk of a new escalation, especially in the Strait of Hormuz area.
Under the mediators' proposal, Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, while the US would lift its blockade of Iranian ports and ease sanctions on oil exports. The formula also calls for a two-week ceasefire and the immediate resumption of negotiations, if both sides agree.
