Berlin police have released a photo of the suspect in the car crash into a crowd during the Pride event in the German capital. The suspect is 21-year-old Abdul B., who authorities say is known to police and is suspected of having links to Islamist circles.
Authorities have urged citizens not to approach the suspect, as he is considered dangerous and may be armed. So far, there have been no reports of his arrest, while police continue their search.
The serious incident occurred during the Christopher Street Day celebrations in Berlin, where a vehicle crashed into the crowd, killing one person and injuring 16 others. Three of the injured are in critical condition.
Investigators are also verifying reports that after the vehicle crash, several people may have been attacked with knives. The motive for the incident remains under investigation.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called the incident a "horrible act" and said those responsible would face justice. Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner described the incident as "an attack on our free and open society."
