A serious road accident was recorded this morning, at around 06:10, on the Dukat-Orikum axis, in the Fushë Dukati area, where a van transporting workers went off the road and ended up in a side canal.
According to preliminary information, the vehicle was transporting workers who were suspected of having left Tirana for the coast. Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident may have been caused by the driver falling asleep or as a result of a health problem, suspected to be cardiac arrest, which caused him to lose control of the van.
As a result of the accident, Ilir Haka, 52, died at the scene. Meanwhile, Saimir Haka, 22, Qazim Haka, 44, and Sako Rexha, about 22, were injured and transported by ambulance to the Vlora Regional Hospital, where they are receiving medical attention.
Due to the severe deformation of the van, firefighters had to intervene, cutting parts of the vehicle to extract the injured who had been trapped between the metal sheets and seats. The victim's body was taken to the hospital morgue.
Traffic Police services and the investigation group are at the scene, carrying out actions to fully clarify the circumstances and causes of the accident.
